Storm Barbara causing havoc to returnees travel plans

Storm Barbara is causing havoc with plans to return home to Ireland for the holidays .

Irish Ferries have confirmed that it has cancelled 6 of this Friday’s crossings

An update statement on the Irish  Ferries website reads ” Irish Ferries regrets  to advise that due to adverse weather conditions on the Irish Sea ,the 08:45hrs Swift Fast Craft sailing is cancelled .Passengers can be accommodated on the 08;05hrs Ulysses Cruise Ferry .

Meanwhile the 11;50,4;45 and 5;15pm from Hollyhead to Dublin on Friday have been cancelled.

On the Flights front there is concern about the impact of fog which is in place across southern England and British Airways have issued a statement that this fog is affecting some flights to and from London airports today .

It appears that the journey home this Christmas for our Diaspora will be daunting as Storm Barbara hits Ireland and the U.K. and we strongly advise that you check your travel providers website to check the status of your Flight or Ferry .

Bank of Ireland launch 24/7 service for returnees

Bank of Ireland  one of Ireland’s biggest Banks have just launched a new campaign that will assist returning emigrants and skilled overseas professionals to ” hit the ground running ” when they land in Ireland to take up new careers .

Recruiting and Retaining employees the big issue in the Advertising industry .

As Irelands economy is expanding the demand for skilled professionals in the Marketing and Advertising sector is particularly strong .

Back 4 Good strategy receives Government support .

Back 4 Good  met Mr Joe McHugh TD Minister for the Diaspora last week at the Ministers office in Government Buildings .

This meeting was one is a number of planned meetings between Back 4 Good and various Government Ministers and officials with the objective of integrating the successful Back 4 Good initiative with a number of key strands of Government policy including Rebuilding Ireland,Jobpath,The Expert Skills Group and Skills Shortages in the State Sector .

Back 4 Good welcomed the endorsement and support offered by Minister McHugh on the Governments behalf for the Back 4 Good program and Inparticular for the unique county by county strategy devised by Back 4 Good.

The Back 4 Good county initiative is creating county Talent registers so that development agencies such as the IDA can ensure a more balanced spread of FDI and jobs .

Back 4 Good also outlined our request to secure involvement of placement officers working for the Department of Social Protection  in the matching process throughout their national network .The Department still hold the same staff numbers as they had when unemployment was at 17% ( it is now 7% ) and these extra staff can make a significant contribution towards increasing the Talent pool in each location.

Overall the meeting with Minister McHugh was very successful and we plan to meet again in the New Year for the roll out of our county by county strategy .

Joe McHugh TD is Minister for the Diaspora and Overseas Development Aid and was Chairman of the Oireachtas Committee for the implementation of the Goid Friday Agreement .

Facebook job number could hit 2500 with new HQ

Facebook is expanding significantly in Ireland and is currently looking for a new headquarters in Dublin.

If the multinational is successful in its search it looks like they could create over a 1000 new jobs .

Facebook has hired real estate agent DTZ to help them find a new base as they are out growing their current home in Silicon Docks in the heart of Dublin.

However the search for a new HQ will prove to be very difficult as office space in Dublin of that size is hard to find .

Facebook are currently building a Data centre in Clonee outside of Dublin at a cost of € 200 million and over 600 construction jobs on the site .

If Facebook are successful in securing a new HQ site the companies staff number would reach over 2500 .

Iconic Clearys is to undergo significant redevelopment following the granting of permission by Dublin City Council to develop the O ‘Connell Street site for shops,homes and a hotel.

It is planned that the development will reinstate original architectural features such as Clearys Portland stone facades,the old stores tea rooms and its sweeping stair case .

The new owners of the development Natrium welcomed the granting of the permission and stated that they has a vision to re-establish O ‘ Connell Street and its surrounding environs as a place of importance in the social and cultural life of citizens and visitors .

Commerce created by the development will generate €329.1 million annually to the Irish ecomnomy.
