As Ireland heads towards full employment with the latest unemployment rate at just above 6% the demand for skilled labour is one of the major challenges facing employers both large multinationals and medium to small Irish firms .

The latest rate at 6.3% represents a nine -year low and projections are that unemployment will fall below 6% by year end raising the risk that the economy will overheat .

While the IDA’s half-year results announced last week were very strong with job approvals up 22% and investments approved by the IDA resulted in 11,000 jobs ,FDI firms have warned the IDA that they need to address the areas of housing availability and cost ,as well as personal taxation  in order to continue to attract and retain Talent and win high levels of investment

ESB Controversial. HQ ” facelift ” begins- 500 jobs will result .!

Construction on the ESB headquarters in Fitzwilliam Street has commenced .

The 150 million euro project is one of the largest office developments ever planned for the city .

When complete the office element of the development will be 50% occupied by the ESB with the remaining 50% capable of accommodating 1,400 office workers .

The ESB headquarters built in the 1960s created controversy as a parade of Georgian houses were cleared out to make way for it which resulted in the encroachment of Dublin’s ” Georgian mile ”  and was one of the worst crimes committed against Dublin’s historic core .

This new development was challenged as it did not comply with the Dublin City Development plan which required the Georgian Facades of the 16 buildings demolished in the 1960s to be reinstated .

PJ Hegarty & Sons are the main contractors for the redevelopment which will involve the demolition of the existing buildings ,the retention and refurbishment of a number of protected Georgian structures and the construction of a new seven -story office block.

This project will create 500 new jobs during peak construction over approximately three years .

The good news is that work commenced to remove this eyesore from Fitzwilliam Street and Merrion Square once  and for all and this is most welcome .

Qatar Airways expand into Dublin -Daily service to Doha

Qatar Airways have commenced a new daily service from Dublin Airport .

The Airline will operate a daily service from Dublin to Doha and to celebrate this new service the Airline flew it’s new generation Airbus 350 aircraft to Dublin for the inaugural flight .

This was the first time an Airbus A350 had operated a scheduled service to Dublin.

From this week onwards ,Qatar will operate its daily service with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner .

Qatar’s new service to Doha is one of 11 new routes at Dublin Airport this year .

During 2015/2016 Dublin Airport welcomed 42 new services and 71 existing services were expanded with either additional flights or larger aircraft .

The addition of the A350 to the Qatar Airline fleet has helped position Qatar and Doha as a global axis hub geographically ideally suited to cover the entire world .With only one stop ,most passengers can get to anywhere in the world through the Qatar hub that has been created for the A350 .

New Revenue Service with an App !

The Irish Revenue has announced changes to it’s PAYE Anytime service ,which will come into effect from the middle of June .

The service ,which was first released in 2005 will no longer be accessible and from mid-June it will be possible to conduct all PAYE business online via the PAYE Services in ” My Account ” which is accessible on mobile devices and through RevApp which is available on iOS and Android .

Request an end of year statement ( P21 )

Add a job or pension .

Revenue’s new website will go live on the 7th June and the Revenue say that it was produced as a ” result of consultations with customer focus groups ,our own staff,tax practitioners and representative bodies,we also looked at recent research into how people actually look for and consume online content ”
