Bad news for returnees as rents hit record high.

The significant rise in rents is showing no sign of slowing down with the latest Daft.ie rental report highlighting that rents have risen last year and that this rise was the largest annual increase ever recorded .

This record rise has happened notwithstanding the fact that the Government extended rent caps to a number of new designated zones .

In Dublin rents rose by 14.5% last year the second highest on record since 2002 .Daft say that average rents in Dublin now stand at €1643 which is a remarkable € 200 more than they were when the last peak was recorded in 2008 at the height of the boom .

In Cork rents rose by 12% in 2016 with the average cost of renting at € 1,090.

In Galway rents are 10% higher at €975 on average while rents in Limerick are at €875 which is a 12.5% rise and in Waterford rents rose by 10.7% .

More worryingly supply shortages are becoming acute with many landlords getting out of the marker as a result of the Government caps .

Furthermore large numbers of rental properties are now in the hands of Vulture Funds whose only objective is to maximise their revenue .

The  forecasts for 2017 are a cause for concern with just 4,000 properties available to rent just last week,  which is a quarter of the available properties five years ago .

Back 4 Good have advised our users to factor in these rent numbers when considering job offers and to try an include some short-term rent allowance as part of your package .
