Hollyhead opens one pier in and out of the port .
The latest news from Holyhead is that on pier opened today 16/01/2025 with around 100 berths .
It looks like this busy port may not gully re- open before spring as a result of damage caused during Storm Darragh last weekend .
The closure of the port is having significant impact on both UK and Irish businesses and livelihoods .
Over 33,000 vehicles come across from Holyhead to Dublin in the Christmas period with over 100,000 passengers ,over half of them coming by car .
With some flights rising by over €600 one way from London to Dublin this option is not viable and with a possibility that Holyhead may close for sometime ,perhaps into January and early spring the Government must look at new arrangements through Europe .
Meanwhile our returning diaspora are concerned that they indeed will not make it home for Christmas .
Many are looking at air services however not surprisingly gouging is taking place with Airlines hiking up the cost of a one way flight into Dublin from the UK to over €600 .It is clear that the Goverhave had their eye off the ball on this issue,originally focusing on parcels with 500,000 parcels stuck in the port.
As the delays developed it was clear that the damage to the port was significant and that it would take time to fix yet no consideration was given to develop a plan for the 100,000 plus returnees who had planned their annual return home for Christmas .

As the crisis continues it looks like many returnees are cancelling their plans to come home for Christmas unless the port can be opened before this weekend .
