Yelp cut 175 Jobs

Some bad news on the job front with the anticipated announcement by Yelp that it will shut its International HQ in Dublin with the loss of 100 jobs.

Yelp which announced strong third quarter results on Wednesday said it will cut up to 175 sales and marketing roles at its offices outside North America as it intends to focus its resources on its home market.

While the company did not specify where the axe will fall it said it intends to ” maintain and grow” its engineering teams in London and Hamburg.

Only 2 years ago amid much fanfare Yelp announced 100 new jobs for Dublin mostly in sales and marketing and with the company recording net income growth of 30% in the third quarter the decision regarding Dublin is causing some unrest within development agencies in the capital who are red faced by the actions of Yelp.

The good new for the Irish employees is that their skills are in high demand and it is anticipated that job  offers will be there particularly form Irish employers who are expanding in the sector at a strong pace.
