Job Title: Healthcare Assistant (HCA)
Location.   Dublin, Cork, Galway
Employment Type:  Full-time
Reports To:     Clinical Nurse Manager/Staff Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking a caring and motivated Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to provide essential support to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, or community care settings across Ireland. The successful candidate will assist with personal care, daily living activities, and basic clinical tasks while promoting dignity, respect, and patient well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with personal care, including washing, dressing, toileting, and oral hygiene.
  • Support mobility, repositioning, and the use of hoists/wheelchairs as needed.
  • Help with feeding and hydration, ensuring dietary needs are met.
  • Monitor and record observations such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
  • Assist nurses with basic clinical tasks (e.g., wound care, catheter care, specimen collection).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to patients and families.
  • Follow individual care plans and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
  • Adhere to HIQA (Health Information and Quality Authority) standards and infection control policies.
  • Complete patient documentation accurately and confidentially.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Certification:
    • QQI Level 5 (Major Award) in Healthcare Support (previously FETAC) or equivalent.
    • Training in Manual Handling, Infection Control, and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults(desirable).
  • Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting (nursing home, hospital, home care) is preferred but not essential for entry-level roles.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
    • Physical ability to assist with patient mobility.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Garda Vetting (mandatory).
    • Eligibility to work in Ireland.
    • Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
