Role Overview:

Our client is developing a brand-new, purpose-built nursing home on a greenfield site in Galway and is seeking dedicated and compassionate Social Care Workers to join the founding care team.

Social Care Workers will play a vital role in supporting residents’ emotional, social, and psychological well-being. Working collaboratively with nursing and therapy teams, the role focuses on person-centred care that promotes dignity, independence, and meaningful engagement in daily life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build trusted, respectful relationships with residents, providing consistent emotional and practical support.
  • Support residents in maintaining independence and autonomy, including assistance with personal goals, hobbies, and routines.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of individual care plans that promote social integration, mental stimulation, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Advocate for residents’ rights and preferences, ensuring their voices are heard in care planning and daily decisions.
  • Facilitate and participate in recreational and therapeutic activities, both onsite and within the community where appropriate.
  • Liaise with families, friends, and community supports to maintain residents’ social connections and identity.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to signs of emotional distress, isolation, or behavioural change.
  • Maintain accurate and professional records in accordance with HIQA and internal policies.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive care culture that values diversity, dignity, and empowerment.

Key Requirements:

  • A recognised qualification in Social Care or a related discipline (e.g., Applied Social Studies, Social Work).
  • Experience in residential care, elder care, disability, or mental health settings is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of person-centred planning and a commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of older people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong team ethic with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required.
