Traditional Roles on offer across Ireland

As part of the Back 4 Good St Patrick’s Week Talent Drive, we are highlighting a number of specialist roles that reflect the richness of Ireland’s traditional craft heritage. Two of the most important of these roles are Dry Stone Wallers and Traditional Thatchers, both of which are essential to preserving Ireland’s rural landscape, cultural identity, and historic buildings.

Across the west and north-west of Ireland, there is increasing demand for skilled professionals who can restore and maintain traditional stone walls and thatched roofs. These crafts are deeply connected to Ireland’s history and form a distinctive part of the countryside that visitors from all over the world come to experience. From the stone walls of Connemara and Mayo to the iconic thatched cottages of Clare and Galway, these traditional skills are now more valuable than ever.

Back 4 Good is actively promoting opportunities for skilled craft professionals abroad who may be interested in returning to Ireland to apply their expertise. Many Irish craftspeople developed their skills internationally in areas such as heritage construction, restoration, roofing, masonry, and conservation. Through our St Patrick’s Week Talent Drive, we are encouraging these skilled individuals to consider returning home to contribute to the preservation of Ireland’s architectural heritage.

The roles recently highlighted—Dry Stone Wallers in the North-West and Traditional Thatchers across the West of Ireland—demonstrate the type of specialised work now available. These positions involve restoring historic structures, working on heritage cottages, maintaining farm boundaries, and supporting conservation projects across rural communities.

These opportunities are particularly attractive for craftspeople who value working outdoors in some of Ireland’s most scenic landscapes while applying highly respected traditional skills. In addition to preserving historic structures, these crafts contribute significantly to local tourism, rural development, and cultural identity.

Back 4 Good believes that Ireland’s traditional craft skills must be supported and strengthened by attracting both returning Irish professionals and international craftspeople with relevant experience. By promoting these opportunities during St Patrick’s Week, a time when Irish communities around the world celebrate their heritage, we hope to reconnect skilled professionals with meaningful career opportunities at home.

Craft professionals interested in exploring these opportunities are encouraged to contact back4good@tuta.com to learn more about current roles and upcoming projects across the west and north-west of Ireland.
