BREAKING: Vulnerable  People Failed Again

Last night’s shocking #RTEInvestigates exposed neglect and poor care in two nursing homes in Ireland — with residents left isolated, ignored, and at risk.

HIQA has confirmed it had already stopped admissions at one of these centres and is now taking further action. Minister for Older People Kieran O’Donnell called it “a wake-up call” and pledged stronger inspections.

But inspections alone are not enough.

Ireland STILL has no national safeguarding law.

People with disabilities, older adults, and those in care are being left behind by a system that only reacts when the cameras roll.

It’s time for action.

We need a real safeguarding law with:

✅ Legal obligations on care providers

✅ Mandatory reporting of abuse

✅ Independent oversight

✅ Accountability and transparency

✅ The person’s voice at the centre of every decision

We cannot wait for another documentary or another scandal.

⚠️ Vulnerable people deserve protection — not policy promises.
