US companies may locate Talented workers affected by the Trump immigration plan in their Irish operations.

President Trump’s order banning immigrants from 7 countries entering the USA is having a significant impact on US Multinationals and in particular US Tech Corporations who rely on these skilled workers to advance new and innovation solutions .

The CEOs of Microsoft,Apple,Netflix,Airbnb have denounced the policy which is affecting their own employees working in the US and affecting these companies search for Top talent within the 7 banned countries .

Indeed it is somewhat ironic that Trump’s executive order maybe damaging his core policy ” to make America great again ” as many skilled workers are deciding on other less offensive locations to work thus impacting on US companies and their plans for research and development.

The CEO of the US Internet Association Mike Beckerman said on Sunday ” Internet companies in particular thrive in the US because the best and the brightest are able to create and innovative products and services right here in America ……the Executive Order has troubling consequences ”

Microsoft are providing free legal advice to employees affected by the ban with strong concern about the families of these employees .Indeed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella an immigrant himself posted a statement on Linkedin saying ” As an immigrant myself and as a CEO I’ve both experienced and seen the positive impact that immigration has on our company, for the country and for the world ”

Apple CEO Tim Cook was strong in his condemnation of the order and has met Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner to strongly demand its withdrawal .In a statement to staff he said ” Apple would not exist without immigration ,let alone thrive and innovate the way we do ” Apple’s founder Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian immigrant .

Other US multinationals are concerned thatTrump will extend the list of countries and look at deportations and are holding urgent meetings around how the keep the skilled talent on their books and how they attract new Talent based on the hostile environment .

Ireland is on the agenda in that regard as most USA multinationals have the European or World Headquarters  in Ireland and with a favourable work permit system based on skills the option of relocation for employees out of the USA is a very real one under consideration  .

Aaron Levie CEO of Box has indicated that they  will look at legal options first ,” we are trying to take an inventory on who could be impacted and ensuring that they stay in the country for now ” It’s very unfortunate and very disappointing ” he said.

Immigrants account for a significant part of the workforce in the Tech industry in the USA which has for years advocated loosening laws to increase the flow of skilled immigrants to the US .

President Trump’s Executive order may result is the loss of many thousands of jobs within the US and a flight of Talent out of the USA that could result in carnage for many sectors in America .

Trumps team has a significant Irish gene pool !

As the world watches on and a nervous Irish Government holds it collective breath in anticipation of the new Trump administration, maybe they should relax a little and start focusing on the strong Irish connections in the new administration some of whom are very enthusiastic about their Irish roots.

One such key strategist is Kellyanne Conway the woman behind the successful Trump campaign and appointed as Counsellor to the President by  President Trump last December.

To try to get an understanding of the Diaspora connection let’s look at Kelly Anne in greater detail .Kellyanne  Elizabeth Fitxpatrick was born in 1967 in Camden ,New Jersey .Her father was Irish and her mother was of Italian descent .

in the 2016 Presidential campaign Kellyanne endorsed Ted Cruz and chaired the pro-Cruz political action committee known as ” Keep the Promise ” .The Cruz  campaign never took off and Trump a long admirer of Conway hired her as a Senior Adviser on his presidential campaign and Campaign Manager .

Ironically  it was Kelly Anne Conway that shattered the ” glass ceiling ” that Hillary Clinton had hoped to do when  she became the first woman to successfully run a Presidential campaign .

Conway is seen as a stabilising  force and is one of just a handful of strategists that Trump takes note of .

indeed her importance to Trump was clearly shown when she was the first person outside of the Trump family that he thanked in his 3am speech on election night .

Conways Irish father owned a small truck company in New Jeresy .

Conway  who is hated by feminists throughout the US ,is a mother of 4 and describes herself as an Irish -American Catholic who makes breakfast every day for her children and then goes to mass ,She is a daily communicant !

Conway reportedly took Donal Trump to meet her local Manhattan priest Father George Rutler who blessed the future President just days before the election .

Conway is proud of her Irish ancestry and continually boasts about about her family’s links to Ireland .

Trumps team have strong Irish connections with Vice-President Mike Pence grandmother from Doonbeg ,Co Clare and his grandfather Richard Crawley also from Clare, they arrived at Ellis Island in April 1923 and he became a bus driver in Chicago .

Pence himself visited Ireland in 2013 .

Meanwhile it is rumoured that Trump will make Brian Burns a businessman and close friend of Trump the new Irish Ambassador.Burns is a grandson of Irish immigrants with strong connections with Co Kerry .

His grandfather was a key adviser to Joe Kennedy father of President John  F Kennedy .

Good news for Back 4 Good is that our Back 4 Good -Your future in Philadelphia social media campaign has 12,000 followers and the concept is on the new administrations radar as they wish to focus on returning skilled USA professionals to their own Cities .

Interesting times ahead for Ireland as it try’s to build relationships with the new administration after putting ” all its eggs ” in the Clinton basket .

You can return to your own county and renovate your home with Government support .

The Back 4 Good county strategy took an interesting turn with news today that the Government are to approve a new scheme of renovation grants that will allow you to restore properties in Towns and Villages throughout Ireland.

The scheme dovetails nicely with the Back 4 Good county by county strategy as it attempts to lure all house buyers back into rural communities and for returnees you now have the option of buying a home in your own town or village at far lower prices than exist in the major urban areas .

The scheme is part of the Governments action plan for rural development which aims to create 135,000 jobs in rural Ireland within the next 3 years and increase foreign direct investment in those areas by 40% .

Back 4 Good developed the unique County Talent register strategy which is producing Talent registers for each county in Ireland ,these registers consist of highly skilled returnees from each county augmented by local talent .

The registers will be shared with Development agencies to encourage Foreign direct investment in each county and shared with employers so that each county can start to benefit from the economic upturn .

The renovation scheme is to be approved by the Government at today’s  Cabinet meeting .

Deep concern for jobs as industry awaits Hard Brexit .

As Theresa May is due to announce a “clean break ” from Europe tomorrow in a speech designed to appease the Euroseptic wing of her party, the implications for Ireland are significant and already some firms have closed as a result of Brexit .

The details of Mays speech emerged yesterday the day after the EUs Chief negotiator offered the first hint of compromise from Brussels to ensure that member states continue to have easy access to the City of London .

This morning the pound slipped to a three-month low in early trading with investors spooked by concerns over Britains exit from the European Union and now the single market .Investors are worried that such a decisive break from the single market will drive foreign investment out of the U.K and  hurt British exports .

For Ireland the planned hard Brexit and the absence of a trade deal between the UK and the EU will have significant implications for the border and could see tariffs charged on goods crossing the border or moving between the Republic of Ireland and Britain.

The impact on Ireland could be a permanent loss of 3.1% of GDP by 2030 and the resultant job losses associated with such a contraction .

On the good news front a hard Brexit could see the movement of firms from the UK to Ireland with some major financial institutions already actively considering moving business to Ireland .

With some €1.2 billion of trade passing between the UK and Ireland each week the planned hard Brexit will lead to job losses and falling tax receipts and business and industry bodies are deeply concerned about tomorrow’s speech and fear that many years of hard work recovering from the crash will be loss overnight .

5 mushroom farms supplying the UK  supermarket business have already closed and tourism is another key sector as risk with over 41% of trips to Ireland by overseas visitors coming from the UK ,the tourists will be put off travelling with the pound at over 20% less in value .

Engineers Ireland reported last week that 40% of its members had UK deals deferred or downgraded since Brexit .

A total of 400,000 jobs are calculated to be dependent on Irish -UK trade, with over 40% of all exports from Irish owned firms going to the UK.

Tomorrows speech could be the start of a disastrous period period in trade relations between Britain and Ireland .
